Final Evaluation

After doing researches on modern hairstyles which links to the Elizabethans and also the techniques learnt from the lessons, it helps me to understand more and give me ideas of how to create my designs. By developing my research, I’ve created three designs and  tried them on the practice head to see what works well and what doesn’t.  Then, I’ve developed my final design further by experiment with different compositions (e.g. decorations and hairstyles). After practicing the hairstyles during and outside the lesson, it helps both of us to sort out problems, communicate, get to know about each other's design and I've adjusted my design for my partner. In order to improve, I think she can demonstrate her design on the practice head, so I will know what I need to do clearly rather than asking her friends to explain and demonstrate on her head. I'm happy about the appearance that I've done for Mihaela's final design and also impressed about the hairstyle that Mihaela created of my design. I found the most difficult part during the assessment was to backcomb the hair for the bun as the more I backcomb it, the more it went tangle, but at the end, I managed to complete the look successfully. After many practices, I think it worth because I have managed to complete the hairstyle, worked successfully on her hair brief and my techniques have improved. I think it is interesting to be the role of hair artist, creating my partner's design and I've learnt new techniques such as attaching the hair extension. I feel I have created a combination of traditional Elizabethan look and a contemporary style which fits in the topic ‘Redheads and Royalty’.

I felt that Mihaela has done well during the assessment and although she was worried that she won't complete the look in time, but at the end she managed to complete the look. It is good that she has separate different pins in boxes and the work station was layout neatly and tidy. Although on my design, she didn't put the pearl balanced and the plait was far apart from the first plait but overall, I'm impressed about the final appearance of it. Because we have practiced during and outside the lesson and we have communicated with each other about the design, I think the final look was successfully done and I was happy about it.

Mihaela has done the step by step of how to create her final design look, equipments used and the photos of the complete hairstyle. During the final assessment, she has told me to put three pearls at the front of her hair to add decorations for her final look. I think in order to give more details to her design, she can added the decorations (the flowers and the pearls) on her final hair chart to provide more informations and details of her design.



I'm impressed about the final look of Mihaela's design that I've done and at first, I was worried about the timing problems as I have asked my partner to come to university half an hour earlier for the preparation time and she was ten minutes late, but I was happy that I’ve managed to complete the hairstyle in time. The problem that I came across during the assessment was to backcomb the hair extension and create the bun shape. After I backcomb the hair extension, although I just backcomb the inside bits of the hair, but the hair went tangle and didn't lie smooth and flat. But at the end, I have tried my best to make sure it was as smooth as it could be and use hair spray to fix the hair in shape. I'm especially impressed about the four French braids that I've done and I think the hairstyle was successfully completed.

I have made the padding smaller this time as Mihaela said the padding is big for her to do the look last time. In the morning of the assessment day, I have asked her if the paddings are the right size to make sure she can complete the look and she said it is fine. I am pleased about the padding that she has done on me and I think the back of the hair looks nice and is what I want my design to be. The pearl at the bottom on the second plait is not balanced with the others and I think the composition of the second plait is not on the right place as it is too far apart from the first plait which is different to the others. But overall I'm happy about the final look of my final design which is created by my partner Mihaela Solomei and she has managed to complete the hairstyle in time.

 

I think Mihaela has done well on the final assessment and well prepared the equipments used to complete the look. She was abled to complete the style in time.

Practice before the assessment on my practice head

On above are the photos which I've taken after I have practiced my partner's final design. In order to improve next time, I should try to put the bun higher but I'm impressed about the overall results that I've done on the practice head and hope every things go well for tomorrow final assessment! :)

Practicing Mihaela's final design

I have practiced Mihaela's final design again and this time, I think the bun is not placed right in the middle and it's a bit on the other side as you can see on the first photo. Also, the flowers aren't in the right order and it should be blue, red, blue, red and blue. I just realized I have got the wrong order after I've placed four flowers onto the bun, but it was too late because after the flowers were put into the bun, it is difficult to pull it out and also it will mess up the bun shape. I am impressed about the four French braids that I've done here and after a lot of practice, I am more confident about braiding it and get more faster.
