Hendrik Kerstens - Interesting ideas of hairstyles

Hendrik Kerstens is a Dutch photographer and his photographs have been collected by museums around the world. He create brilliant photographs by photographing his daughter, Paula, as the model in the image. His works were inspired by the portraits in the seventeenth century of the Dutch masters and the portraits of the Italian renaissance and he recreates the portraits with his ideas and creativity. He uses materials and items that we can found at home or supermarkets and I think it is amazing that he just used very simple materials, experiment with different shapes and he can already create different hairstyles and headdresses. His ideas are so inspiring and actually these portraits remind me of the Elizabethans as well.

This plastic bag reminds me of the coif that Elizabethans wore.

This look reminds me of the big hairstyle that the Elizabethans constructed and I think it is similar to the heart shaped hairstyle.

Kerstens's works are so inspiring that even Alexander McQueen was inspired by him in his 2009 Fall collection fashion show with the use of plastic bags as part of the headdresses. This collection links to the Elizabethans as you can see the features of red lips, the way that the makeup artist block the colours on the eyebrows and also the white, alabaster skin.
